Malaria in Pregnancy Advisor - Monrovia, Liberia

Over the past 40 years, Medical Care Development International (MCDI) has worked to strengthen health systems through integrated, sustainable, and locally-driven interventions across several public health sectors. MCDI collaborates with donors, national governments, the private sector, health agencies, communities and local stakeholders to improve health and save lives in the following areas: malaria control; maternal, neonatal and child health; water, sanitation, and hygiene; tuberculosis; HIV/AIDS; malaria; zika; and other communicable diseases.

MCDI is currently seeking candidates to serve as the Malaria in Pregnancy (MIP) Advisor for the upcoming four-year USAID Liberia Health System Strengthening contract. As a key member of the project team, s/he will provide technical assistance and programmatic guidance to the project, the National Malaria Control Program, the Ministry of Health Reproductive Health Division and its stakeholders at the national, sub-national and health facility levels.

This position is contingent upon contract award to MCDI.

Responsibilities:

The MIP Advisor will:

* provide leadership in the development of innovative approaches to increase demand for ANC and MIP services and provide overall technical assistance to plan for MIP nationwide;

* guide the integration of MIP services with RMNCH, HIV and TB, and nutrition services;

* work to improve the quality of care and adherence to standards for malaria in pregnancy;

* work to strengthen County Health Teams' capacity to deliver quality MIP services through effective training and supportive supervision at the county and facility level, including new midwives and low performing health facilities;

* develop a strategy to support health workers to improve interpersonal communications;

* oversee training of healthcare workers to complete the new HMIS forms and revised registers to enter data on IPTp3 and IPTp3+ doses of SP;

* oversee scale up of MIP interventions in Montserrado, Bomi, Grand Kru, and Maryland.

Qualifications/Requirements:

* A university degree in a health-related field required; BSN, RN, MD, preferred; a Master's degree is a plus

* Experience providing technical assistance and capacity building in malaria in pregnancy required

* Experience providing TA to national or sub-national malaria control programs required

* A total of 4-6 years' experience in a senior clinical or programmatic position, with at least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience required

* Willingness to spend up to 40% of the time in peripheral facilities to assess progress and make corrective actions is required

* Research experience in public health, clinical medicine, or new technology development and testing is highly desirable

* Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel) required.

* Priority will be given to Liberian nationals.
